About Us

Cadillac Area Ski Club was formed decades ago by community members, businesses and youth racers with a passion for alpine ski racing. Ski boosters was the host of the first ski swap sale in 1972 which at that time supported high school athletes but sparked the interest for younger programs. In the same time frame Caberfae Race Team was formed and offered an exciting experience by talented Caberfae ski instructors. In 1983 the Extreme Team was formed and fueled by Joe Hosts love of the sport. Club races were taking place, using stop watch times and coca cola prizes. All of these programs and events were the building blocks for todays CASC. It has taken a community to grow the program into what it is today with several people lending their support for multiple years. Many of these early pioneers can still be found on the slopes at Caberfae, ripping turns and supporting race programs.

Over the years CASC has seen talented athletes transition into knowledgeable coaches, friendships form across generations and young athletes find success, resulting in a community commitment to keeping race opportunities alive for all ages. Spring races for all, official youth club races and adult races have formed along the way and are still alive this season. Shout out to our home hill, Caberfae Peaks for their wonderful support through the years.

Today CASC still hosts the annual ski swap every November. It, along with the Earl Huckle Memorial Race serves as the clubs largest fund raisers, allowing the club to stay up to date with modern equipment and offer the best we can to developing athletes in the area.

Many have endured the cold nights of junior race training. All leave with life long skills and relationships. Local athletes who move up to the Cadillac High School Ski Team are joining one of the most successful athletic programs at Cadillac schools. CASCs goal has always been to teach young athletes ski racing fundamentals and the fun of competition. We are pleased to see our athletes find joy and success in ski racing. So many have continued to race at great levels when they outgrow juniors. Too many years and names to list, I’m sure you know of at least one.

Thank you to all the young and old that have dedicated their time and resources to Cadillac Area Ski Club. This here is just a snap shot of the long history and timeless stories.
